Random voice chat with your camera off

Pick voice matching for a conversation you can hear. Your microphone carries the call, so you can keep the camera off and focus on what the other person is saying.

Set up audio before matching

  1. Choose a microphone

Plug in your headset before you start and confirm the browser uses that microphone. Lower the speaker volume if you hear an echo.

  2. Join the voice queue

Accept the microphone prompt for MimiChat when you’re ready. Give matching time to find a partner. You can leave while it looks.

  3. Handle silence or poor audio

Check the headset’s mute switch and output volume if you can’t hear each other. End the call and try again once the device is working.

A listening check for your next voice chat

Start with the direction of the sound. Check the microphone when your voice is missing, and check the speaker when you cannot hear the other person.

They cannot hear you

Check the physical mute switch, then make sure your browser has microphone permission and is using the headset you are speaking into. You can test the mic in your device’s sound settings before joining another match.

Troubleshoot the microphone

You cannot hear them

Raise the call volume and check where the device is sending audio. Bluetooth headphones can stay connected while sitting across the room. Leave the call before reconnecting a headset or trying the built-in speaker.

The room is too loud or shared

Headphones help you hear privately, but a live mic still picks up conversations and names around you. Move to a quieter spot or use text if you need a conversation that is silent on your side.

Common questions

Do I need a webcam for random voice chat?

Voice matching uses the microphone. It does not need camera access.

Can I match without using a microphone?

Use text matching to type without granting access to either device.

Can I use a Bluetooth headset?

Use the headset if your device can select it for input and output. If the audio drops when you switch devices, leave the call and verify both settings before trying again.

What does voice matching show about me?

Your camera stays off, but a conversation can still reveal your voice, profile information, and details you say aloud. Share only what you are comfortable having someone else remember.
