Video call not working?
Start with what you can see or hear. Check permissions first for a missing device and try another connection for a call that keeps freezing.
Browse online profilesStart with the part that failed
- Your own picture never appears
- Check the camera, its permissions, and the device that the browser selected.
- The picture works but sound is missing
- Separate the microphone from the speaker so you can test the right direction.
- The call starts and then stalls
- Check the connection after closing the session. Changing permission settings is unlikely to fix an already connected feed that freezes.
Camera blocked or black screen
- Open the site controls next to the address bar. In Chrome, select the site controls icon and allow Camera for the current site.
- Check the operating system’s camera privacy settings. Allow camera access for the browser you’re using, then restart the browser if it asks.
- Check for a physical shutter, close apps or tabs using the camera, and reconnect any external webcam.
If your own preview works but the other feed is blank, the issue may be on the other side. Try ending the call and starting again after both devices are checked.
If the camera works in another application, the hardware is probably available. Close that application and look at the permission for the exact site you opened. If it fails in every application, check your device’s camera settings or reconnect the webcam before changing anything else.
Microphone works nowhere, or nobody hears you
Allow Microphone in the browser’s site controls and in your device’s privacy settings. Check that the headset or webcam microphone you want is selected and turn off any hardware mute switch.
If you can’t hear the other person, check output volume and the selected speaker or headset. Try the built-in speaker if Bluetooth audio keeps dropping out.
Watch the input level in your device’s sound settings while you speak. A moving level means the microphone is picking up sound, so check the site’s permission and the selected input next. If the level stays flat, check the mute switch, cable, or Bluetooth connection first.
Picture freezes after the call connects
Pause downloads, move closer to Wi-Fi, or switch to a steadier connection. Close the call before switching networks. Check whether voice or text works with less bandwidth while you troubleshoot video.
Try one change at a time. If video works on another network with the same camera, focus on the connection. If the screen stays black before a call even starts, go back to the camera checks.
Reopen the call after changing settings
End the current session, reload the page after changing permissions, and review the next device prompt. If the problem continues, note your browser, device, and which part failed when you contact the help center.
A useful support message says which mode you chose, whether your own preview worked, and whether sound was missing in one or both directions. Include the time and any error text you saw. Leave passwords and verification codes out.
